After first appearing in land registries in 1715, Quinta do Noval has gone through transformations in order to permit a more efficient use of the land and better exposition to the sun, and made its name being one of the few to make the declaration of their 1931 Vintage Port as, due to the global depression and the enormous production and shipment of the 1927 Vintage, most shippers did not declare the 1931. This success established this Quinta among the great names of Vintage Port in both the English and the American markets, a leading position in terms of reputation which is maintained today. 

In 1993, Quinta do Noval became part of the international viticultural group of AXA Millésimes and after the new bottling line and warehouse completion in 1997 in Alijo, near Pinhão, the company was the first of the traditional Port shippers to centralise all its activities in the Douro Valley.
