Domaine Pouderoux Maury 2023 50cl
Tasting Note
Cherry with some blackberries, chocolate and prune coming off the nose. The palate is nicely structured, with more chocolate and red berries. A very fruit forward style of fortified wine which is so well integrated.
Producer
This estate is based in the Maury Valley, between the end of the Pyrenees and the Cathar strongholds of the Corbieres, and is a product of the work of many generations of the family, having been in the heart of the village of Maury for more than a century. It is a story of family and heritage that has been passed down from mother to daughter for 6 generations until passed to Robert Pouderoux, an only son. He has now passed the baton to his cousin, Louise who works hard to create the wines with the help of Leo.
They aim to conserve the knowledge and quality of their wines through constant questioning of the environment, working the vines and the wines with the image of what they would like to give to the consumer: sincerity, finesse and balance.
The Domaine transitioned to organic farming in 2011 and then to biodynamic production in 2021, reflecting the desire of innovation in farming practices that respect the environment as well as people.
They aim to create moment of sharing and exchange between people and so their wines are made according to one's wishes, whether that it to simply enjoy them or to taste them seriously. As long as there is pleasure in the consumption of the wine, they are happy.
The terroir here is specific, with a soil structure characterised by schist marl soil and black schist soil within the limestone slopes. This structure allows for the creation of underground water faults. This causes the vines to grow their roots very deeply (several tens of metres) into the soil.
Ecological diversity is ensured through the promotion of the habitats of insects, birds and bats as well as endemic plant species: almond trees, kermes oak, rockroses, broom, serviceberries, euphorbias, strawberry trees, mimosas and junipers.
