Tasting Note
A fantastic depth of flavour ranging from the riper end of plush strawberry through to the tarter cherry and cranberry, good concentration and showing balsamic aroma prized in the best quality Sangiovese based wines. That lifting sour note marries well with the fine acid backbone and tannins that are smooth and desire food! A very pleasurable wine indeed.
Producer
We are delighted to re-introduce Tenuta Bichi Borghesi’s Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG to our shop. Located on the northern border of the Montagnola Senese, overlooking the Elsa Valley, this family-run estate has been a part of the Simonelli family for over four centuries. With a deep connection to their land, Bichi Borghesi produces wines that truly reflect the character of this corner of Tuscany.
While the estate spans 450 hectares, less than 10% is dedicated to vines, with a strong focus on organic farming of olives and bees alongside sustainable viticulture.
The Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG is a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, and Colorino, resulting in a vibrant ruby red wine with a balanced, fresh flavour profile.
This region, the largest of the Chianti subzones, enjoys a warmer climate that imparts richer, fuller-bodied wines. The Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG requires a minimum of 75% Sangiovese in the blend and less influence from Cabernets compared with the other subzones of Chianti, and as you can see Niccolò Simonelli’s blend has fully embraced that more indigenous approach to viticulture and winemaking.
