Elio Ottin Torrette 2016 75cl
Tasting Note
Like a Roald Dahl book, this is wonderfully chaotic! Big then delicate, sweet then savoury, fruity then meaty.... just a fun fun fun wine.
Producer
At the age of 23, Elio Ottin acquired his first plots of land situated between the municipalities of Quart and Saint-Christophe. This land was difficult to work on due to the acute gradients and coarse-grained soil, but nevertheless, in a relatively short time he managed to transform this into "terroir", providing all the signiature minerals and verticality that his domain wines contains.
The farm was actually split into 3 sections: apples, grapes and cattle breeding, and was restricted to small areas of land and only a few cattle but with the right determination he took the opportunity at the right moment to expand his business and use these three sectors to sell his products.
In 1999 Elio took the decision to resign from his permanent job in the regional administration offices in order to completely devote himself to viticulture and with his desire to improve, his passion and enthusiasm, he expanded the company to a total of 13 hectares: 4 of vineyard, 4 of apple orchards and 5 of grazing land.
His range of wines has been broadening over the years and for the first time in 2009, Ottin wines featured in Cuzziol Grandi Vini catalogue which manages the sale of wine on a national scale and at a similar time the new wine cellar located under the family home was opened which was further extended in 2015.
In 2014 he acquired an additional 3 hectares, to bring the farm to what they consider its ideal size. At this time, Elio was also joined by his son Nicolas, who he says is "his greatest success of all".
