Sami-Odi
BAROSSA VALLEY, AUSTRALIA
Don't say 'Shiraz' to winemaker Fraser McKinley. This Kiwi prefers the French name of Syrah, despite making his wines in the Barossa! Working for the Standish Wine Company and Torbreck VIntners, Fraser started Sami-Odi in 2006, making tiny quantities of this grape, at a ridiculously high quality.
He selects plots in some of Barossa's best vineyards and vinifies them separately to create a cuvee. Using minimal sulphur and organic, he sources the grapes from ancient vines, some dating back to the 19th century. These wines certainly have the potential to be collectors pieces, but I'd say just drink them!
