Peter's Weekly Selection - w/c 19th October 2015

I think people are going to get fed up with me going on about South African wine, but they really really really are great. The Cape's winemaking is changing with terroir and a place of origin being the most important element, with what grapes are going in a secondary factor and leading the way are a group of talented young winemakers. 

This week, I'm highlighting a range of white blends, most using Chenin Blanc as a base and then mixing in other grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Roussanne and Semillon.  I'm not the only one trumpeting these wines, Tim Atkin, Jancis Robinson and Jamie Goode have all been very impressed by what they are trying, and I'm working with some of the best importers from this African nation and getting access to some of the rarest wines. If you fancy clean, lighter and savoury - look at the Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse by John Seccombe. Chris Alheit's Cartology is a bit weightier with some richness and if you fancy older and more honeyed, the Sijnn 2009 Blanc has aged wonderfully. PLEASE have a look at some of these wines - I know they aren't cheap, but they are worth every penny.
