Chateau Carcanieux 2015 75cl

£18.50 GBP

Tasting Note

Ripe cassis fruit, oak spice and a leafy note to the ripe tannins. Gently feral and showing a hint of maturity, the sous bois-flavoured finish is long and spicy with a lingering, fruity core. Vines average 25 years of age and grow on particularly gravelly and sandy, free-draining soil within 23ha of Château Carcanieux's 40ha Médoc estate. Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%) are vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged oak barrels, with no more than a fifth in new oak.

Producer

Château Carcanieux covers an area of 40 hectares, 37 of which are planted with vines - mostly consisting of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The estate sits on a ridge above the town of Queyrac named Les Terres Hautes de Carcanieux ("The Highlands of Queyrac"). The soil here is extremely gravelly, giving rise the estate's original name that is carved into its pediment: Carcanieux Les Graves.
