Domaine Vincent Girardin
COTE-DE-BEAUNE, BURGUNDY
In the past 35 years of its existence, Domaine Vincent Girardin has grown from only 3 hectares to over 22 hectares of prime vineyards in Cote-de-Beaune. Vincent was born and raised in Santenay and he demonstrated his love of his home through his treatment of the land. Having abandoned herbicides and pesticides, Vincent Girardin developed a lovely habit of beautifying new vineyards that he purchased; the ‘Clos du Cailleret,’ on the outskirts of Chassagne-Montrachet, had its stone wall painstakingly restored.
Much of Vincent Girardin's range focuses on lesser-known areas in Burgundy which offer great bargains and new discoveries. However, he has recently begun producing wine from more famous appellations, such as Mersault or Pommard. The wines display a gorgeous, supple texture with vibrant fruit and tremendous concentration. The grapes are often picked earlier to retain a high natural acidity and little new oak is used in the ageing so that the purity of fruit is protected. Many of the wines from Domaine Vincent Girardin are approachable when young, but truly hit their stride after five or six years of bottle aging.
