Chateau Barbe Blanche
LUSSAC SAINT EMILION, BORDEAUX, FRANCE
With 28 hectares of vines in the heart of the Lussac-Saint-Emilion appellation, this estate has a long history, with Henry IV apparently appreciating the wines of Barbe Blanche. Belonging to the Favereau family, then the Jay-Bodet family, the wine was in the hands of Andre Magnon, who sold 50% to Vignobles Andre Lurton.
Making predominantly Merlot wines, I visited this estate in July 2019, had a fabulous lunch, and fell in love with their wines. Drinking younger, the vintages from 2012 onwards are lovely and very tasty now.
