Calem
DOURO, PORTUGAL
Founded in 1859 by Antonio Alves Calem, in 1998 Calem was the first shipper in Gaia to be bought by a company based in the Douro, but is now part of the Spanish Sogevinus group. The Calem family kept hold of the backbone of the wines, Quinta da Foz when they sold the company, but in 2004 Calem bought a Quinta in the Douro Superior.
