Champagne Gremillet Selection Brut 75cl
Tasting Note
This producer's Selection Brut is a fabulous, biscuity, rich style of Champagne. I really don't know how it is so cheap, but it is, so enjoy!
Producer
A family run company, Gremillet was founded in 1979 by Jean-Michel Gremillet after inheriting a plot of vines from his lother Lulu, but their grape growing history goes back to the 18th century. Near the historic city of Troyes (it is lovely, lots of wooden framed houses - you must go) - the historic capital of Champagne.
The vines lie on steep, sun-drenched hillsides in Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. Pinot Noir is king here, and constitutes around 94% of Gremillet’s plantings, with the remainder dedicated to Chardonnay, ideal for creating a classic, baked biscuit, rich, fruit-flavoured Champagne.
This family owned and run Champagne house is HVE 3 certified and as much as possible it restricts the use of chemicals in the vineyards. One of their cuvées is certified organic by ECOCERT and they hope that this is only the start of a bigger process.
