Juan Benegas Malbec 2015 75cl

£14.00 GBP

"Big, fruit driven and voluminous in the mouth with oodles of rich, ripe, soft fruit and fine, sweet tannins."

Bodega Benegas single-handedly puts paid to the notion that Argentina is part of the so-called 'New World' of wine. Owner, President and Chief Winemaker, Federico Benegas-Lynch - a not-so-distant cousin of Che Guevara with distant family connections in Bordeaux (Lynch), is the great-great grandson of the renowned Don Tiburcio Benegas, the man who brought the first French vines to Argentina.

The old adobe brick winery, with its own 40 hectares of old vines known as Finca Libertad in Luján de Cuyo, is creaking under the weight of history and produces some of the most impressive wines anywhere in the country. These days, Benegas also has vineyards in the Uco Valley and whilst embracing this fabulous resourse, often blending across diverse terroirs to great effect, the beating heart of the winery is still firmly in Luján de Cuyo.
